Matt was born in Phoenix, AZ in the early '80's, to talented, artistic parents. He grew up in Utah, enjoying a vast array of varying landscapes and developing a love for the out-of-doors.
"From the surreal shapes of redrock country in southern Utah, to the rural farms of central Utah. From the sharp granite cliffs of the Wasatch Mountains to the green forests of the northern Uinta Mountains, Utah has it all."
Matt paints only in oils, usually on mounted linen. His paintings are characterized by a strong sense of design and composition, bold brushstrokes and the subtleties of atmosphere. He often paints plein air (outside on location) and uses his color studies for larger studio paintings. His subject matter is usaully scenes of the intermountain west or the southwest deserts. His paintings range from the intimacy of the Arizona "prickly pear cactus" to rugged expanse of the Grand Tetons.
"My goal is not just to "depict" the landscape, but to capture the inherent beauty and perfection of nature in a way that exhibits artistic merit and communicates emotionally with the viewer."--Matt Warren
Besides landscapes, Matt paints portraits, figurative, and narrative-religious works. He served an LDS (Mormon) mission for two years in Budapest, Hungary. While there he was able to visit the prestigious Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, and discovered the late great Hungarian artist, Benczur Gyula.
